! 2010 Contest Important Information !
Please read this important information about the contest and the site
Site Notes
- Site Surface
- This year again we will be flying off of the R/C side of the Maloof Airpark. There is an approximately
200' x 400' pad in the center of the R/C runway, in front of the pit area. We will mark circles with washable marking and
use this pad. The area was resurfaced in 2008, and is very smooth. We will have use of the covered area as well. We used this area
last year, and it is much nicer than the space we used in the past.
- Park Restrictions
- The park has a caretaker that opens and closes it each day. It should be opened by
7:00 AM, and closed at 7:00 PM, when we all have to leave. However, on the weekends there is no
engine running before 8:00 AM! We absolutely have to observe this rule out of respect for the park rules
and the neighbors. We want to keep using this site. If you want to put in some practice, best plan on coming out on Friday.
See the item below.
- Practice Day
- We have the field reserved starting the morning of Friday August 13. We will be at the site
about 10:00 or so that morning getting the site ready. You are welcome to come and practice that day, but be aware that we will be
working to mark the field, and so you may have to hold off at times to let us work.
- Site Elevation
- The site is at 5390' MSL. Couple that with the expected daytime temperature in the mid 90's
and it makes for some thin air. If you are not used to flying in these conditions you should be aware that once you get
your needle you will be going much further on the same amount of fuel, and that the bottoms of all the manuvers will be dicey
until you learn to adapt to the thin air. At most every contest there is a case where someone pulls out of something
like the vertical 8 at about -0.5 foot level....
- Saturday Night dinner
- As in past years Gary and Judy Marchand have graciously volunteered to host the
Contest folks at their house for dinner, drinks, and socializing. They always put out quite a spread. Last year Ed brought
some old slides of years gone by for some entertainment. Gary will have directions to his house at the field on Saturday,
so don't make any other plans for Saturday night!
Contest Details
- Pull Testing
- We will be pull testing the stunt planes consistent with the 2009 - 2010 AMA Rulebook. This
requires that each plane be pull tested to 10G. To accomplish this we will set up our pull tester to allow us to adjust
it to pull in 4 oz plane weight increments. We will weigh your plane, and the set the pull tester to the 4 oz weight bin
you fall into. For instance, if your plane weighs 60 oz, then we will pull 600 oz of pull test, or 37.5 lbs.
If your plane weighs 63 oz, then we will pull you at the rate for upto 64 oz weights, or 640 oz, or 40 lbs.
- Racing
- Depending on the entrants, we may run the NCLRA Fox Race and NCLRA Super Slow Rat combined.
Please see the NCLRA website for both of these sets of rules:
NCLRA Fox Race and
NCLRA Super Slow Rat.
Please note the prop restriction to "either 9-6 or 9-7 wood or plastic, commercially available.
The only rework permitted is balancing."
